NASA recently reported that the Mars rover had received a software upgrade, its third upgrade since landing on Mars about 16 months ago. Engineers say that they upgraded due to the value of the enhanced capabilities in the new version. NASA reported that their first upgrade attempt caused a problem and resulted in an unintended reboot, but they tried again several weeks later and accomplished it smoothly in about a week. Amazing! In one week, it’s possible to upgrade a system as complex as the Mars rover…on Mars.
